November 2-December 31st 2026 with a 90 minute sit Friday, January 1st!

Monday-Thursday 8-8:30amMT January 1st sit 8-9:30am MT

Join Sam and Sangha for her longer Fall/Winter practice offering. This seasonal sitting period will focus on the practices of Mindfulness of Breathing, as taught by the Buddha in 16 stanzas. Through mindfulness of breathing, we can access the 7 factors of awakening and the 12 liberative factors as described in the Upanisa Sutta. You do not need to attend every sit, attend as you can. You will receive the most benefit from attending as often as possible.

Sits will be via Zoom only and will not be recorded. 8-8:30am MT/7-7:30am PT/10-10:30am ET.

Sam will offer a closing/celebratory sit on January 1st as part of this series. January 1st sit will include a short talk and longer practice period from 8-9:30am MT.

  • Please note: We will NOT meet 11/18 & 11/19 as Sam will be leading a retreat.

Sliding scale suggestions: $90 scholarship, $135 Sustaining, $185 Benefactor. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Offer what you can. If you need a full scholarship, please email Sam.

Mindfulness of breathing is a beautiful way to experience calm, tranquility and “courageous attention” so that the mind/heart can settle into the flow of the body being breathed and we can develop a spacious sense of concentration, where the liberating factors come alive all on their own. Appropriate for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

Venmo HERE for registration.

If you do not use Venmo, please email Sam for Paypal or to mail a check for Dana. With a deep bow for your dedication to freedom and love!

Silent Retreat in Salt Lake City, Utah

Two Wings, One Bird

Facilitating Teachers

Tim Slocum & Sam Akers

Offered by Northern Utah Insight. Just as a bird needs two wings to fly, the Buddhist journey soars on the two wings of wisdom and compassion. The Buddha offered wisdom practices that cultivate deep and transformative insight into the nature of suffering and release from suffering; he also taught compassion practices that cultivate care about the suffering of the world and supports the sure heart's release. Together, these two mutually supportive wings of the Dharma can lift us to an open hearted freedom to flourish in all aspects of our lives.

Registration opens June 22, 2026. There will be a lottery and SLC folks will be offered first spots. For more information and to register visit NUI HERE
